My name is Rafael Pereira (Rafa for short). I am a researcher at the Institute for Applied Economic Research (Ipea) in Brazil and I've recently finished my PhD at the Transport Studies Unit (TSU) at Oxford University. In these links you can find my Google Scholar and CV.





Research Interests

My research is broadly concerned with the role of urban and transport policies in shaping the spatial organization of cities, people’s accessibility to opportunities as well as health and social inequalities. Some more specific interests include:
  • Transport justice - theoretical and measurement issues of transportation equity, and distributive impacts of urban and transport policies
  • Spatial analysis, complex networks and transport accessibility
  • Sustainable patterns of sustainable urban development and travel behavior 
  • The organization of urban functional areas and commuting patterns
  • Active travel and health inequalities
